Description

Yankee Fighter: The Story Of An American In The Free French Foreign Legion, first published in 1942, is Jack Hasey's (1916-2005) account of his service with the Foreign Legion in the 1930s and early 1940s. The book describes Hasey's young years, his time in Paris, and his service as an ambulance driver in Finland for French troops wounded while fighting the Russians. Following the fall of France in 1940, Hasey joined the Free French Foreign Legion, serving as an officer in North Africa and the Middle East. Included are 16 pages of illustrations. Although the book concludes in 1942, Hasey went on to become a senior operations officer with the CIA, serving in numerous countries. He was one of only four Americans (including Dwight Eisenhower), to have been named a Companion of the Ordre de la Libération, France's highest World War II honor.
