Prehistoric animals

No one can say for sure when the first prehistoric animals were found, but we do know that primitive tribes built many legends and superstitions around the strange-looking imprints in rock that we call fossils. Uncivilized men realized that all sorts of weird monsters and giants had once lived on earth, and in many places legends of dragons and similar beasts persisted for hundreds of years after these parts of the world had been fully civilized. Such stories were fed by the imagination of people who found the remains of prehistoric animals and did not quite understand what they were.
