It's one thing to keep large amounts of information within an organization, but it's another thing to be able to retrieve this information when you need it. Microsoft Search service helps you to do this - it searches and indexes information and stores it in full-text indexes so that it can be retrieved later, quickly and easily. Microsoft has created an extension of SQL to retrieve this information, called SQL full-text extensions (also called WSS SQL or DAV:sql). In this article we will focus on how to use SQL full-text extensions to query the SharePoint Portal Server document store. This knowledge can be easily translated to other Microsoft products that incorporate full-text searching: Indexing Service, SQL Server 2000, Site Server, and Exchange 2000 Server.
