From the author: The new economy is a global knowledge-based economy. In this article, we briefly examine how the technology drivers of the new economy are influencing customer expectations and other performance requirements. We then describe how the World Wide Web and other information technologies are influencing the organization of innovative, project-based collaboration within teams, companies, and industrial communities and the recent rise (and fall) of dot.coms and their associated Web-enabled business and community project networks. Finally, we review how these new economy models of work create both challenges and opportunities for the practice of human resource management.
