From the supplier: A 1982 study of computing needs in Ohio's higher-education system is described. The study assumed provision of computing access for students in every discipline, excluded computing needs for administrative applications and considered workstations the standard vehicles by which students access computer technology and applications. Elective, literacy, skill and foundation levels of computing intensity were defined, and the hours needed by students in each of these disciplines to interact with computer systems were determined. It was concluded that 6,500 workstations, averaging $5,000 apiece, were needed throughout the state and that funding should be apportioned via full-time-equivalent student enrollment. As a result of the study, the Ohio legislature authorized approximately $5 million per year in funding for six years, and this has enhanced academic programs statewide.
