From the supplier: MCA/Universal Studios' disaster preparedness plan helped save the studio's film vault and limited the financial costs of a major studio fire in 1990. Despite the loss of movie sets and $20 million in damage, the MCA/Universal was able to reopen the day after the fire. The studio had previously prepared a safety map of the 420 acre facility and done contingency planning with fire fighters. The company maintains original movie copies in its film vault in remote, safe locations. MCA/Universal has updated its safety planning after analyzing the disaster.
