From the supplier: The evolution of communications technologies is characterized by a movement to facilitate the personal access to information. At this point in the development of multimedia technology, the medium in which communication occurs is potentially as involving as the content of educational presentations. Mediums such as television and video games point the way to future educational materials that engage students on the same sensory levels. While such materials cannot totally replace text-based communication, they can provide a significant way to enhance a curriculum. This is particularly the case since studies show that people retain 20 percent of what they absorb through auditory channels, 40 percent of what they see and hear and 75 percent of what they interact with. Multimedia can infuse this interactivity into educational material, transforming students from passive recipients to active participants in the educational process.
