From the supplier: The University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) utilizes three organizations to successfully provide computer-integrated instruction (CII). CII refers to instruction that employs computer technology as the development or delivery medium and that may integrate other media, including CD-ROM and videodisc. The Office of the Provost furthers CII through such activities as developing specialized departmental computing facilities. Instructional Development actively creates courseware across a range of academic disciplines. The Microcomputer Laboratory (MCL) receives its core funding from the state instructional computing fund as well as supplementary support from the College of Letters and Sciences and the College of Engineering. The MCL provides instructional computing to students in seven laboratories. The lab plans to support such areas as scientific and symbolic computing, MIDI, computer-assisted instruction (CAI), CAD/CAM, and videodisc technology. Moreover, all three units work towards improving instruction through computing, although each is a distinct entity.
