From the supplier: Managing information for educational applications requires thoughtful and deliberate planning on how the information will be used and planning and development of information systems and software to maximize the utility, value and ease-of-use of information while minimizing its cost. Computing technologies promise access to a greater variety and depth of information resources, but mere access to data doesn't make it useful. Understanding how information is managed, information flow and how to integrate information management with the way people work and the tools they use enables successful planning. Computers are not implicitly information management systems, but some types of computer programs are explicitly designed to manage quantities of information for educational applications. These 'personal information management' tools are exemplified by the Personal Reference Catalog (PRC) from Delphinius Inc (Groton, MA), which is a HyperCard-based tool for the Macintosh computer. The functioning and use of PRC to organize and increase the value of information are discussed.
