From the supplier: The usage of just-in-time (JIT) purchasing processes in three small beverage bottling plants was analyzed. Implementation of JIT entails the engagement of corporate resources and close coordination with suppliers. The benefits of JIT are substantial, according to a survey of 21 US manufacturing firms. The management of the bottling plants studied did not formally implement JIT management practices and their managers were not familiar and had scant knowledge of JIT management systems and purchasing processes. It was suggested that the bottlers should be taught about the benefits of JIT purchasing practices.
