From the supplier: Directors of a rural electric cooperative decide what direction the utility will take through their management of its business and activities. In performing this duty, they are bound to attend all scheduled and special co-op meetings, conferences that are associated with the cooperative movement, and seminars on cooperative issues. Moreover, the members of a directorial board are responsible for making decisions regarding service expansion, funding, work plans for projects and repayment schedules. They are also tasked to indicate their approval on such areas as negotiated union contracts, load management policies, audit reports, annual financial statements and forecasts. In return for their efforts, directors always face the possibility of liability. The real winner in having directors in rural electric cooperatives are the consumers because they pay only 18 cents for each board member in a given month.
