From the supplier: National Hurricane Center Director Robert Sheets urged the insurance industry to insist that buildings are constructed and maintained with superior building methods, to prevent losses during future catastrophes. Hurricane Andrew damage was heavy but minimized by the fact that the most damaged areas happened to be constructed above the standard of 90% of US coastal areas. Construction materials that weathered the hurricane best included cement blocks with concrete tie beams reinforced with steel.
