From the supplier: The functioning and capabilities of 2D and 3D animation software packages and their advantages in educational applications are illustrated by 23 briefly described example products. Animation software enables educators to produce effective and exciting presentations and courseware. Numerous animation tools are available for the PC and Macintosh, including ones under $500. Animation tools do require a powerful host system with a large hard disk, a lot of RAM and a fast, high-resolution graphics card. Selecting an appropriate package requires an understanding of basic computer animation concepts, terminology and capabilities. 2D animation tools produce flat characters against a flat background. 3D animation tools require models or mathematical representations of the objects to be animated. High-end tools are available for use over a LAN and for sophisticated architectural and engineering applications.
