From the supplier: Johannes Mathesius was inspired by the published works of Georgius Agricola and integrated his interest in mineralogy into his sermons as a minister in St. Joachimsthal. He was born in 1504 to a wealthy mining family in Rochlitz, Saxony. In 1529, he began theological and natural sciences studies at the University of Wittenberg. His private collection, of which he wrote, included specimens which Agricola 'neither possessed or knew of.'
