From the supplier: The US Dept of Justice's Antitrust Div is investigating the insurance industry for possible violations of federal antitrust laws in the industry's lobbying of state governments against the bank marketing of annuities. A preliminary investigation by the Antitrust Div indicates that insurance companies violated federal antitrust laws by acting together to oppose the bank marketing of retirement certificates of deposit that the insurance industry considers to be annuities. The lobbying activities allegedly were not intended as serious legislative efforts but as efforts intended to harass the banking industry.
