From the supplier: Cellular manufacturing differs from stand alone manufacturing in that there is significantly less room for flexibility in the event of mechanical failure. Hence, in cellular manufacturing, a greater emphasis must be placed on preventive maintenance to ensure that breakdowns are kept to a minimum. Predictive maintenance should also be employed so that vulnerable system components are replaced before they lead to mechanical breakdowns.
