From the supplier: Eastman Kodak Chmn. and CEO George M.C. Fisher says that he left his job as CEO of Motorola because the company was already on the right track and would not really suffer from his departure. He did not want to stay because he would just be waiting for his retirement. Kodak, on the other hand, offered many challenges. When Fisher took over from ousted CEO Kay Whitmore, the firm had already undergone four painful restructurings over a period of seven years, earnings had fallen and market share had declined. Fisher immediately set about to change how the firm operated. He sold five businesses to raise money to eliminate Kodak's more than $7 billion in debt, changed the organizational structure and created a new management team. Fisher's strategy is to combine rapid production with the marketing of products related to electronic imaging. He predicts a double-digit growth for the company.
