From the supplier: New Jersey's Megan's Law attempts to prevent child sexual abuse recidivism through registration with police, community notification and civil committment for those still considered violent or mentally ill. The last two provisions raise many constitutional issues such as due process and cruel and unusual punishment. The rights of sex offenders must be limited somewhat to protect innocent children and women but a broader reevaluation of the whole process of conviction, treatment and release needs to be made before an integrated and comprehensive policy can be adopted.
