From the supplier: Two electoral experiments in Eastern Europe, particularly in Estonia and Hungary, both have short- and long-term political consequences. The Additional Member system in Hungary strongly reduces the number of parties in parliament, tends to benefit parties with strong local organizations and responds effectively to forces that disrupt political systems. However, it promotes weak ties between the representative and their constituents. Estonia's Single Transferable Vote system is touted as a good alternative to majority systems, due to proportionality of representatives and fairness. Its seats in legislative bodies also approximate the distribution of popular votes.
