From the supplier: Downsizing affects employees on many levels. It may result in mental and physical disorders such as depression, anxiety, stress, coronary disease, peptic ulcer and hypertension. It can also adversely affect their corporate loyalty, morale, job satisfaction and productivity. In light of these possible negative consequences, management should do everything it can to avoid these outcomes. To do so, they should encourage the participation of the employees who may be affected in the decision-making process and communicate clearly to employees the purpose of the downsizing. Management should also make sure that all employees are treated fairly, layoffs are conducted ethically, and communication is clear and polite. An eight-step strategy for downsizing is offered.
