From the supplier: There is justice in the Swedish Academy's decision to award Seamus Heaney the Nobel Prize in Literature. Prior to the award, he had had to wrest himself out from under the shadow of William Butler Yeats, the other Nobel Prize winning Irish. He did this by forging his own poetics from out of his origins, the Irish farm at its most elemental state. His poetic language and imagery reflect the ancient Ireland that worshipped the Earth Goddess. This is the deepest level at which the Irish is rooted. This is the poetry that won him recognition, made him a worthy successor to Yeats, and won him the Nobel prize.
