From the supplier: Pawnshop businesses, easy-credit providers, check-cashing outlets, rent-to-own stores, collectively referred to as the 'poverty industry' have increased their profit since the early 1980s. This industry caters to the loan needs of the poor, the uneducated, the socially deprived and the discriminated Blacks. However, because the interest rates are far higher than what most banks demand, these business 'sharks"'leave the poor even poorer in the end. Realization of the commonness of their fate has led many loan victims to seek legal aid.
