From the supplier: The Society of American Archivists in Chicago, IL, experimented on the use of its listserv for garnering opinion from its members. The listserv enables the sending of a single message to a number of people simultaneously. However, when communications were extended towards governance issues, the organization discovered the technology's limitations. The taken for granted nonverbal aspects of face-to-face communication cannot be transmitted through the listserv and distorts interpretation of ideas. Also, the large number of responses received slows down decision-making.
