From the supplier: The advent of information technology (IT) is causing major changes among travel agents as a result of a shift in distribution channels. Electronic commerce, for instance, is reducing the roles of travel agents as information brokers and processors of transactions with the introduction of electronic ticketing services by airlines. Travel agents are also experiencing a decline in commissions and revenues and a corresponding increase in labor, IT and administrative costs. Travel agents need to use IT to their advantage by exploiting their core competencies.
