From the supplier: There are a wide variety of insurance types to consider and numerous insurance factors to evaluate in selecting an insurer and obtaining the best insurance rates at the same time. Many factors must be considered in preparing a request for proposal (RFP) when initially shopping around for insurance or when renewal dates approach. Organizational requirements and market changes will determine the frequency of the RFP preparation process. Some firms shop around when every insurance renewal date approaches while others opt to make changes every three to five years. Guidelines should be determined to control the bidding process and proposals should be solicited from a number of different underwriters other than the one normally used. Closely monitoring the insurance market will keep companies up-to-date on any changes which may affect them and alert them when an RFP is required.
