From the supplier: Nine CEOs share their views on the future role of technology experts in the management of corporate organizations. Some of these CEOs, such as Tom Bell of Young and Rubicam Advertising and J. Peter Kline of Bristol Hotels and Resorts, disagree with the idea that CIOs will necessarily have the inside track to the CEO position simply because their department is now considered to be critical to a company's success. However, other CEOs, such as Merle Lewis of Northwestern Corp, Michael Dubose of Aftermarket Technology Corp and Jerry Tatar of Mead Corp, believe that CIOs will become as important as CFOs in the future. The remaining CEOs, Charles Mueller of Ameren Corp, Tom Rogers of NBC Cable, Bill Clifford of Gartner Group and Bert Ellis of iXL Corp all believe that individual competence will play a greater role in determining who gets to become CEO.
