From the supplier: Peace in Lebanon remains fragile mainly because it continues to be a site of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Despite an end to the country's sixteen-year civil war, peace continues to be a main concern in Lebanon as the country's senior politicians expressed no interest in staking out an independent path and in following the Syrian lead. Its fragile peace situation became evident in October 1996 when Israeli, Lebanese and Syrian armies undertook military maneuvers to reposition themselves for the next stage of the peace negotiations.
