Description

This IDC study explores the issues related to putting technical servers onto grids. It first presents IDC's definitions for grids, distributed computing, and what it means to be grid active. The primary reasons for adopting grids and the inhibitors to adoption are summarized. The final section shows the projected adoption rates for placing technical servers on grids for 2003–2008.

"Systems vendors should look on grids as a component technology in their overall technical computing solutions strategies," said Earl Joseph, program vice president of Technical Computing Systems. "We believe that vendors can use grid technology as a differentiator and as a mechanism to expand their share of mind and dollars with customer organization."
