Description

This IDC study analyzes and forecasts the market for WiFi-enabled cellular phones in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan). It is expected that dual-mode devices will grow from 400,000 units in 2005 to over 17 million units in 2010. While there are powerful accelerators on the vendor-side, considerable barriers remain, including limited integration between WiFi and cellular and regulatory issues.

"Backed by some top mobile phone vendors, shipments of dual-mode handsets in APEJ are beginning to experience some growth spurts. However, to achieve long-term success, several technological, regulatory, and business issues still have to be resolved," says Aloysius Choong, market analyst, Personal Systems, IDC Asia/Pacific)
