Description:
The minor and trace element chemistry of 175 Late Jomon pottery sherds was determined using energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF). The sherds came from six contemporary sites in the Kanto region and belong to the Kasori B style of pottery. Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to reduce the number of variables and model-based cluster analysis was used to find clusters in the PCA scores. Model-based clustering found two clusters in the data set; these two clusters correspond to the local sedimentary raw materials near the sites.
