Read the opening chapter of Daniel Oran’s short novel, and you’ll be hooked. It’s a page turner that feels like a medical thriller. But as you read further, you realize that the author has grander ambitions -- and maybe even a message. The narrator, Paul Gold, is a likable, if somewhat overwhelmed, young doctor at a big city hospital. He’s struggling to get by, dealing with own demons, when he meets an extraordinary patient. Joshua suffers from amnesia, but he also possesses talents that defy easy explanation. Oran's elegantly simple style is a delight. And you may find that this poignant story and its characters linger long after you read the final lines.
