A First Russian Reader

The object of the present book is to provide easy reading for beginners of Russian. The stories are arranged in the order of increasing difficulty, but even the simplest presuppose a knowledge of declensions, conjugations, and elementary rules of syntax. More than half of the text is taken from Soviet literature; the rest comes from Tolstoy, Karrik, and Tihomirov collections, as well as other Russian anthologies.
