To the members of the Desert Art Center, this is the basic function of a work of art, to make one more aware to increase the joy of living. Palm Springs, a resort area, has a large influx of winter visitors. Because of this, about one half of our association painters are residents of other west coast cities, coming down here to live and paint in our beautiful winter months, and because of the weather, the artist can paint out on location almost ninety per cent of the days. Our ever changing desert is an inspiration to the artist who tries to capture its various moods. The artists that make their home here, as a rule leave for the mountains or the seashore during the hot summer months, giving them a wide variety of subject matter. The artists represented in the TREASURY of LIVING ART cover a broad spectrum of talent from the student artist winning his first awards, to the older professionals who have been recognized in their various areas for many years.
