This IDC study evaluates Research in Motion's (RIM's) strengths and weaknesses in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ, considering the positioning, market strategies, and competitive status of both its service and device propositions. The study also analyzes the unique challenges the vendor faces as it expands in APEJ, and makes both tactical and long-term recommendations for sustained success.
"RIM has had another eventful year in APEJ as it expanded its devices, services, and solutions across APEJ, making many of the improvements necessary to enhance its appeal to users in APEJ such as adding 3.5G radios to its latest devices, refreshing the look of its hardware and user interface (UI), and beginning to globalize some of its research and development (R&D), production, and channels. Although RIM's global sales are at present heavily reliant on the North America market, looking forward into a global slowdown, RIM will have to count on regions like APEJ to help support growth," says Melissa Chau, market analyst, Personal Systems, IDC Asia/Pacific.
