This IDC study of the Canadian information systems outsourcing (ISO) and network and desktop outsourcing services (NDOS) markets presents IDC's market sizing and spending forecast for NDOS and ISO services. After years of growth in the 4-6% range, the information systems outsourcing market is anticipated to slow to just 0.5% growth in 2009. The network and desktop outsourcing segment is expected to expand by 2.15%, bettering the overall services market. Combined with HIS, or Web hosting, the Canadian infrastructure outsourcing market is forecast to grow to $6.9 billion by the end of 2009.
"The long-standing, traditional belief is that bad economic times are good for outsourcing, that recessions result in larger pipelines and eventually increase revenue and profits for the industry. IDC supports this line of thinking to a certain extent," says Mark Schrutt, research manager, Outsourcing Services. "IDC has factored a slight rise in outsourcing activity in our forecast, leading infrastructure outsourcing to approach C$7.3 billion by 2013, a 3.5% year-over-year (YoY) growth."
