This IDC study contains embedded DBMS vendor shares for 2008 and a forecast for the period 2010–2013. This is a competitive market made up of those elements of the relational and nonrelational DBMS markets that are sold as embedded components of other software or hardware products.
"Overall softness in the economy will result in a nearly flat 2009; this conclusion is supported by the results in so far. Those worst hit are those offering database technology embedded in software sold to small and medium-sized businesses; they are expected to report negative growth in 2009," says Carl Olofson, research vice president for Database Management and Data Integration Software Research at IDC. "As the large DBMS incumbents become stronger in the embedded DBMS market overall, 'pure play' embedded DBMS vendors should look at new opportunities that will emerge during the forecast period and make technology adjustments accordingly."
