This IDC study forecasts the ownership of PCs, notebook PCs, MFPs, LANs, and server-based networks for small businesses (firms with fewer than 100 employees) in the United States annually through 2014, with 2009 as the base year. The estimates for penetration for each of these technologies are presented for the end of each year in the forecast period.
"IT vendors continue to focus on the nearly 7.8 million small businesses as an attractive market segment, based on the size of the market and the fact that they are often less technologically sophisticated than midsize and large firms," said Justin Jaffe, senior research analyst for Small and Medium-Sized Business and Home Office Research at IDC. "As the economy continues to recover, small businesses will once again make significant IT investments, and technology providers that can offer these firms solutions that address real business problems will have a considerable advantage."
