The market sizing is measured based on the penetration of virtualization among the new servers shipments in 2009 and the revenue data of the related software markets. IDC estimates that in 2009, the regional penetration for server virtualization was 11.5%, with a related software market size of US$150 million.

"Moving forward, the regional server virtualization market will experience exponential growth, accelerated by other technical and political factors. IDC estimates the regional server virtualization penetration rate to almost double in five years."
