Based in part on a true story:

Mike has spent most of his life wondering if he'll ever fall in love.

After graduating from college and moving to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming a screenwriter, he is awash in loneliness, struggling just to get by, when he takes a fateful trip home to Ohio. There he has a chance encounter with Naomi, a reformed "bad girl" studying to be a psychiatrist, who instantly understands him like no one else before. It is love at first sight, a once in a lifetime experience.

Thus begins a passionate long distance relationship.

But all the time apart makes for volatility. The separation causes tension and paranoia. Eventually, Naomi decides to move to LA so she and Mike can finally really truly be together. But when he arrives to pick her up from the airport she isn't there - she's gone missing - with no explanation for her whereabouts.

As Mike frantically tries to search for Naomi, he receives a cryptic message from a stranger named Geppetto that leads him to a mysterious door and a perilous journey into a surreal world, where he must brave a warped vision of his past in order to find the love of his life.
