Description

This Halcyon Classics ebook contains seven novels and fourteen short stories featuring British sleuth Dr. John Thorndyke. Thorndkye was created by R. Austin Freeman (1862-1943) a prolific British detective writer who prospered during the "Golden Age of Detective Fiction" during the 1920s and 1930s.

Dr. Thorndyke was a prototypical forensic scientist who used minute bits of evidence to solve his cases. His solutions were based on his method of collecting all possible data (including dust and pond weed) and making inferences from them before looking at any of the protagonists and motives in the crimes. A large proportion of the Dr Thorndyke stories involve genuine, but often quite arcane, points of scientific knowledge, from areas such as tropical medicine, metallurgy and toxicology.
