Galileo’s Square-Cube Law is so fundamental to science that science is hardly science without it. This is because the Square-Cube Law clarifies why size matters and this understanding of how size matters is fundamental to understanding numerous concepts in every major science discipline. Size matters in physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, geology, aerodynamics, nanotechnology and numerous other science disciplines.
Yet Galileo’s Square-Cube Law is left out of most elementary science education programs. Why? Because Galileo's Square-Cube Law reveals what is wrong with the paleontologists' claim that there is nothing odd about dinosaurs and pterosaurs growing so large. The evidence is more than overwhelming in supporting the simple mathematics of Galileo’s Square-Cube Law showing why size matters. Yet science is unable to move forward because the paleontology community is incapable of admitting to being wrong.
Numerous famous scientists have promoted the importance of Galileo’s Square-Cube Law. These scientists include the biologist B. S. Haldane who wrote On Being the Right Size, physics professors Phillip Morrison, Michael Fowler, Benjamin Crowell; biologists Steven Jay Gould, Michael C. LaBarbera, Steven Vogel, Knut Schmidt-Nielsen, Chris Lavers, John Tyler Bonner; and the rebel paleontologist Christopher McGowan. Furthermore the National Science Educations Standards advocates to science educators that they should teach the importance of size. By dismissing the importance of size the paleontology community places itself on the losing end of a conflict with the physicists, biologists, chemists and all the other non-paleontology scientists.
Science is on the verge of a new major revolution; a return to scientific reasoning that is comparable to what ignited the Age of Enlightenment. The seeds of this revolution were planted by Galileo over three and a half centuries ago when he explained why size matters in his final book Dialogues Concerning Two New Sciences. As surely as the Earth revolves around the Sun, this modern revolution will change mankind’s perspective of the world much like the earlier revolution brought on by Galileo’s other book Dialogues Concerning Two Chief World Systems.
Understanding the new science begins with first reading Galileo’s Square-Cube Law so that it is clear why size matters and why this coming science revolution is inevitable.
