Theory of Plastic Deformation and Metal Working

The textbook is designed mainly for mechanical engineering courses of technical schools and colleges. It outlines the physical fundamentals and mathematical theory of plastic deformation, as well as their application in the calculations of forces, power consumption and shaping. Adequately described are the equipment and production techniques used in mechanical working of metals, paying special attention to the theory and new methods of plastic processing. Part 1 deals primarily with plastic deformation, theory of stresses and strain, fundamentals of elasticity and plasticity. It also contains data on friction and lubrication in metal processing. Part 2 covers the manufacturing processing by which machine and structural elements are fabricated from raw metal stock. This part is further subdivided into sections dealing with preparation and heat treatment of metal, general problems and theory of rolling mill practice, pass calculation fundamentals, as well as with metal forming processes such as rolling, forging, drawing, extrusion and others.
