Hallie Ames, an Archeology student from Massachusetts, is researching her doctoral thesis at an archeological dig on Mount Gerazim, Israel. On her way home from work she is mugged, then saved by a mysterious man, Tepi Hin, to whom she is instantly attracted. His mannerisms and behavior belay an Old World mentality, but Hallie cannot deny how he makes her feel - as though she would give him her very soul.

As she learns more about Tepi, she also learns more about herself, her past and their connection. Suddenly, she is thrown into a world of International intrigue, danger and fighting for her life. Hallie learns how to defend herself as though she had known all along...and she has, for she was once a partisan fighter during World War II and the Pharaoh Queen Hatshepsut in 1459 B.C.E. Throughout her incarnations she has known Tepi Hin, her soul mate and Immortal, who has lived over 5000 years.
