This IDC study presents the software revenue shares of vendors for the relational database management systems (RDBMS) market in 2010, with comparison to 2008 and 2009. It also includes a summary description and analysis of the 2010 market and forward-looking observations regarding the next five years.
"Oracle, Microsoft, and Teradata grew strongly, driven in part by the economic bounce back and in part by strong demand for data warehousing solutions," says Carl Olofson, research vice president for Database Management and Data Integration Software Research at IDC. "The RDBMS market continues to show signs of positive growth for the next five years, driven by a combination of enterprise data growth, a desire for specialized database engines (including specialized relational database engines: row-oriented, column-oriented, etc.) to serve various workloads, and increasing investment in data analytics."
