§ Bridgman first worked as a draftsman in New York City, while studying at Brooklyn Art Association.
§ In 1866, he went to Paris where he began studying under Jean-Leon Gerome.
§ He made his first trip to North Africa in 1873. While there, he amassed a large supply of sketches for his paintings.
§ Bridgman was largely popular in the US. He held a one man exhibit where he sold 100 of the 400 artworks he was showing.
