Description

"The Spins" is, at its core, a love letter to the house parties and club experiences of a gay man's college and post-college years. The book (and its sequels) centers mainly on Link, a young gay man from New Jersey trying to walk the tightrope between college and adulthood. Link is an attractive but insecure guy whose internal obsession with a personal points system often gets in the way of his external life. One Thursday night, one party, and one series of revelations at a friend's house will lead Link to reconsider every facet of his life - his friends, his former lovers, and who and what he wants for his future. Link's best friend Kyle ultimately reveals a five-year secret which forces Link into a life-altering choice. The ephemeral and yet enmeshed relationship between Link and Kyle is the focal point of the novel and ultimately the series. Too much alcohol, crazy trannies, clueless boys, and need I mention sex?

Lincoln "Link" McKinley is as stereotypical on the outside as he is unique internally. His fast-paced young social life is framed by anxiety, the need to be loved, and a troublesome internal "points system" that forces him to rate the situations he experiences. When Link finds himself at a New Jersey house party that ends up being anything but typical, the choices that he makes may not just define his evening, but his life going forward.

A best friend whose feelings are ambiguous, a lover from the past, and a new Southern flame with devious intentions will all offer Link a glimpse at his present and future romantic opportunities. As night gives way to morning, he will have undoubtedly gone through some things that cannot be undone. In a sea of alcohol, shady individuals, drag queens and sex, can Link trust not only his decisions, but his baser instincts?

With its pop music references, overarching morality and social issues, "The Spins" is sure to not only captivate the LGBT community but any reader who enjoys a good story about love, interpersonal relationships... and one hell of a party.
