Rose in the Reformatory

Rose Duke’s move to the city, to take up the post of nursemaid for Mr Bartholomew’s motherless twins, turns into a never ending nightmare when, under mysterious circumstances, she is falsely accused of prostitution and sentenced to be incarcerated in the infamous Women’s Reformatory – a harsh facility designed to correct the ways of young women of loose morals.
The prison is ruled over by Jack Brown, the corrupt governor, who abuses the inmates and then sells them to dockside brothels and captains of convict ships that tie up in the harbour.
But when Jack Brown discovers that Rose is a virgin, and that a mysterious wealthy gentleman is looking for her, he knows that she’ll make him far more money than the usual thieves and vagabonds he deals with.
Rose quickly learns that the sting of her father’s belt is nothing compared to the bite of Mr Brown’s cane, or the punishments his cruel wife doles out to the inmates of The Reformatory.
