Anansi and Mantu is the expression of Sydney Hibbert, a Jamaican writer, former diplomat, actor, and professor, now residing in the United States The book is a combination of poetry and poetic essay. Like the wandering, surviving spirit of the volume's title, the work takes the reader through the 20th century Caribbean writer's experience. One travels with Hibbert from the yard-to-yard, neighbor-to-neighbor lifestyle prevalent in pre-progress West Indian communities to the Harlem experience of the early sixties, to the return home and finally, to the awareness of the struggle and pain in other parts of the black world.
