St Josemaría Escrivá: A man of God: Testimonies

Shortly after the death of St Josemaría Escrivá on June 26, 1975), Opus Dei’s office of Postulation began compiling testimonies from those who had known him, especially long-time friends. Owing to his extensive apostolic work, Josemaría Escrivá knew a great number of people from a wide variety of backgrounds. Many of them considered it a duty of justice to write down the history of their contact with Opus Dei’s founder, attesting personally to his holy life.
Following St Josemaría’s beatification in 1992, the Postulator’s Office, responding to many requests, decided to publish some of these documents. The choice was difficult: but it was thought timely to publish testimonies written “ad futuram memoriam” by Spanish ecclesiastical figures who had dealt with him closely for many years. They were privileged witnesses to how he practised Christian virtues, and in particular, to one of his most distinctive characteristics: his love “for the Church with all the strength of his priestly heart.” These texts, which capture the deep imprint left by St Josemaría on so many souls, also reveal to readers a little of the love for God and men that burned in his life.
