David the King of Israel

Friedrich W Krummacher (1796-1868) was a master of distilling biblical narrative into compelling and richly applied prose. Here he traces the history of David's life, linking the sentiments of the psalms with each event to show the spiritual significance in every case.

This book can be read for sheer devotional pleasure but will also inspire preachers with a great deal of thought-provoking material. Krummacher limits David's understanding of eternity a little too rigidly within the supposed constraints of Old Testament revelation but is gloriously inconsistent, regularly quoting David's own expressions of certainty regarding future glory!

Originally published in its English translation in 1868 by Matthew G Easton (whose Bible Dictionary is well-known) with the consent and approval of the author. This edition has been completely re-typeset for issue as an eBook.
